Here is a step-by-step process to apply for an Aadhaar card:
- You can either book an appointment via the UIDAI website before visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or visit one without an appointment.

- After all the documents are accepted, submit your biometric data, including your fingerprints and the iris scan. Your photograph is also taken for Aadhaar.
- Collect the acknowledgement slip that contains the 14-digit enrolment number. It is used to check Aadhar card status. The Acknowledgement slip should be kept safely till you get your Aadhaar card.

You can book an appointment online through the UIDAI website to apply for a new Aadhaar card or for changes/update in existing Aadhaar card. Here is a step-by-step guide to do so:
- On the UIDAI homepage, click on “Book an Appointment” under the Get Aadhaar section.
- Choose if you want to book an appointment at an UIDAI-run Aadhaar Seva Kendra or at a Registrar-run Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
- A). In case you choose to book an appointment at an UIDAI-run Aadhaar Seva Kendra
i. Select your City/Location and click on “Proceed to Book Appointment”.
ii. On the next page, select “New Aadhaar” and enter your mobile number, captcha code and click on “Generate OTP”
iii. Enter the OTP that you receive and click on “Verify OTP”.
iv. Fill in your appointment details including your resident type, appointment type, application verification type, state, city and Aadhaar Seva Kendra

B). In case you want to book an appointment at a Registrar_run Aadhaar Seva Kendra
i. Click on “Proceed to Book Appointment” under the head.
ii Choose the resident type, login method, that is, email id or mobile number, enter the captcha code and click on “Send OTP”
iii. Enter the OTP that you receive and click on “Submit OTP & Proceed”.
iv. Choose “New Enrolment”, fill in your name, age, gender, resident type, address and contact details and review and submit your appointment application.
4. An acknowledgement slip is generated once you book an appointment successfully. You need to take a print out of the same and carry it to the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

To locate the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre, follow the steps given below:
Step 1: On the UIDAI website, click on “Locate an Enrolment Centre” listed under the Get Aadhaar section

Step 3: Fill in details such as District/Sub District/Village/Town, etc.

How to Download e-Aadhaar
Once all the documents and biometric data required for the Aadhaar card are submitted, it can take up to 90 days, i.e. 3 months, for the Aadhaar card to be sent to your residential address. The card will be sent via India Post and due to high number of people applying for the Aadhaar card, it may take more than 90 days to reach to the respective cardholder.
However, if a person is in need of his/her Aadhaar card and in hurry, he/she can download a copy of the Aadhaar card which is also known as E-Aadhaar. To get e-Aadhaar online, you need to visit the Aadhaar Card official website and either use your enrolment number, Aadhaar number or virtual ID (VID) to download a PDF version of the same, which can be opened using a combination of the first four letters of your name in capital and your year of birth as password.
