You have to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or an Aadhar Sewa Kendra to enrol for a new Aadhaar card. You are asked to provide your demographic and biometric details at the time of enrolment. Apart from these details, you need to submit the document proof that verifies your details mentioned in the Aadhaar Enrolment Form.

List of Address Proofs – Documents Required for Aadhar Card Registration

Documents that contain the proof of residing address of the applicant are one of the most important documents to be submitted to the authorized Aadhaar centre. These documents must be proper because the Aadhar card is sent to the address specified by the applicant in the form. If the applicant fails to present the correct address proof or update the same, he may not receive the Aadhaar card. The following documents are accepted by the UIDAI as address proof for Aadhaar registration:

The documents containing the date of birth proof of the applicant which will work for Aadhaar card registration are as follows:

• Certificate of Date of Birth which is issued by Group A Gazetted Officer on letterhead

The list of documents required for ascertaining the relationship of the applicant with the family’s head for Aadhaar card enrolment are as follows:

• Medical card issued by the State Government, CGHS, ECHS and also ESIC
• Canteen card of the Army

Documents Required for Aadhar Card for Children

The list of documents required for issuing Aadhaar cards for children is similar to that for a normal applicant. However, one of the parents has to provide their Aadhaar copy in addition to the documents required by normal applicants for obtaining a child’s Aadhaar card.

Also, children below 5 years do not have to submit their biometric data. It is only required when they attain 5 years of age. It is then when their biometric data is taken. The following are the documents required for Aadhaar card for child above 5 years:

It has to be kept in mind that applying for a new Aadhaar card is purely voluntary on the part of the individual and not compulsory. Also, failing to submit all the requisite documents gives UIDAI the power to revoke the issuance of the Aadhaar card anytime they like.

Documents Required for OCI Cardholders/ LTV Document Holders/ Nepal & Bhutan Nationals and Other Resident Foreigners

Given below is the list of acceptable documents required for Aadhaar Card for OCI cardholders/ LTV document holders/ Nepal & Bhutan nationals as well as other Resident Foreigners:

• For OCI Cardholders: Valid OCI card along with valid foreign passport for residents who have stayed in India at least 182 days in the last one year is acceptable as ID proof

• For Long Term VISA (LTV) Document Holders: Identity and address proof in the form of a valid Long Term VISA (LTV) document and  valid/expired foreign passport of origin country issued to minorities communities of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh such as  Hindus, Buddhists, Jains,  Sikhs, Parsis and Christians

• For Nepal and Bhutan Nationals: (Any one of the identity proofs)
  • Passport of Nepal/ Bhutan for Nepal/ Bhutan nationals
  • In case passport is not available, any 2 of the following documents having the same address can be submitted:

1. 1. 1. Nepalese/ Bhutanese Citizenship Certificate
      2. Voter Identity Card issued by the Election Commission of Bhutan/Nepal
      3. Limited validity Photo Identity Certificate issued by Nepalese Mission/Royal Bhutanese Mission in India

• Other Resident Foreigners:
• Valid VISA and valid foreign passport of resident foreigners who have stayed in India for at least 182 days in the past one year is acceptable as an identity proof

or

• Valid Registration Certificate/ Residential permit issued by FRRO/FRO to the resident foreigners (except OCI card holders, LTV document holders and Nepal/ Bhutan nationals) is acceptable as an address proof

Aadhaar Card as a Document Proof

Aadhaar card can be used as a proof of identity and proof of residence while applying for the following instruments:
