There are different Aadhaar services offered by the UIDAI such as- Verify Aadhaar, Verify Registered Mobile or e-Mail ID, Retrieve Aadhaar, Generate Virtual ID, Offline Aadhaar Verification, Aadhaar Linking Status, Authentication History, and other related Aadhaar services.

How to Lock Aadhaar Services?

Mentioned below are the steps required to lock Aadhaar Services:

Step 1: Visit the official Website of UIDAI

Step 2: Click ‘Aadhaar Lock and Unlock Services’

Step 3: Select the Lock UID button

Step 4: Enter 12 digits Aadhaar Number
Step 5: Enter full name
Step 6: Enter Pincode
Step 7: Enter the security code available
Step 8: Click on ‘Send OTP’. Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number
Step 9: Now you can lock your Aadhaar services

How to Unlock Aadhaar Services?

Mentioned below are the steps required to unlock Aadhaar services:

Step 1: Visit the official Website of UIDAI

Step 2: Click ‘Aadhaar Lock and Unlock Services’

Step 3: Select the Unlock UID button

Step 4: Enter your VID number
Step 5: Enter the security code available
Step 6: Click on ‘Send OTP’. Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number
Step 7: Now you can unlock your Aadhaar services

Points to Consider Before Locking Aadhaar Service

• After you lock your Aadhaar services, you will not be able to perform authentication using Aadhaar number. However, authentication can be performed using VID.
• It should be ensured that the latest VID is with the resident. However, residents can retrieve their existing VID by sending SMS ‘RVID Last 4 or 8 digits of UID’ to 1947.
• VID is mandatory for UID Lock/Unlock.
