After the demonetisation drive carried out by Mr. Narendra Modi in November 2016, the Reserve Bank of India issued new currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000. Demonetisation helped people to incline towards digital money and remove fake currency notes from the market and forced people to throw out black money they had in cash. And recently, the RBI has introduced new notes of Rs. 200, Rs. 50 and Rs. 10.
Features of New Currency Notes
1. Rs. 2000 Note: This new note was introduced right after demonetisation. The colour of this note is pink and at 166mm x 66 mm, it is also smaller as compared to previous Rs. 1000 note. Look at the following points to know more about this new currency note:
Obverse (Front) Face of the Note:
- Like other new currency notes, a photo of Mahatma Gandhi is printed on the front
- When you see the note in the latent position, you can see 2000 printed in 4 different places with the different colour of ink and type-setting
- The note gained popularity due to its security feature. When you see carefully, you can see Bharat, 2000 and RBI on the note
- A promise clause is attested by the governor of the RBI with signature
- A watermark of Mahatma Gandhi and 2000 is also present on the right side
Reverse (Back) Face of the Note:
- A language panel
- Printing year of the note
- The note possesses the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ logo and slogan printed in Hindi
- Apart from this, the note bears the picture of ‘Mangalyaan’ at the back side of the note. The image represents the venture of India into the ‘Mars Orbit’
- One important feature of the note is that it has a raised print of 2000 to help visually impaired people identify and use it easily
2. Rs. 500 Note: Another currency note that was released after demonetisation in 2016 is the Rs. 500 note. The base colour of the note is stone grey and a bit smaller than the older Rs. 500 note. The dimensions are 150 mm x 66mm. Here some features of this note:
Obverse (Front) Face of the Note:
- The note has an intaglio image of Mahatma Gandhi
- More 5 bleed lines on the front side as well
- Signature of the RBI governor and the promise clause is present
- The security thread available on the note changes colour when held in different positions
- Electrotype watermarks
Reverse (Back) Face of the Note:
- The back side of the note has a picture of Indian National Flag and Red Fort
- Language panel and printing year is also at the back side
- Like Rs. 2000 note, this new note also has the slogan and logo of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’
- Again, the note has raised print of 500 and 5 bleed lines to help visually-impaired people identify it easily
3. Rs. 200 Note: The RBI launched Rs. 200 note in 2017. This bright yellow colour note is the new addition because there was no currency of this value. The dimension of the note is 146mm x66mm.Take a look at the listed features of this note here:

- Picture of Mahatma Gandhi is printed at the centre
- India, Bharat (in Hindi), RBI and 200 is also printed on the front
