Founded in 1938, Jammu and Kashmir Bank (J&K Bank) is a state-owned bank which is headquartered at Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. What does ‘16-digits’ in J&K account number represent?
- First 4 digits represent SOLID (Start of Line ID) or branch code of your J&K account.
- Next 5-9 digits represent a type of personal account you hold with J&K bank. Every product or account type is uniquely denoted by a specific number. For example, 04011 is code for J&K deluxe savings account.
- Zeros are filled in between to make it 16 digits in total.

How to convert the account number into ‘16-digits’?
Before sorting this out, here are few things to keep in mind:
- Let’s say you have old savings account with J&K bank when the bank was operating manually. Your savings account number may look like ‘SB215/18’, consider only numeric ‘215’ while converting it to a 16-digit account number.
- In case your savings account number looks like ‘SB5471’, then consider ‘5471’ while conversion of the account number to 16-digits.
Let’s take an example to understand the conversion of the account number to 16 digits. Let’s say you hold basic savings account at Residency road, Srinagar branch of J&K Bank. Your account number looks like ‘SB6120’. Now, let’s convert this to a 16-digit account number:
- Branch code or SOLID of Residency road Srinagar branch is 0005
- The basic savings account code is 04010
- The actual account number is 6120
- So, your J&K bank’s 16 digit account number is 0005040100006120

With the 16-digit account number, one can easily get the details required for e-banking transactions. For example, to do NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer), IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) code is mandatory. IFSC code can be obtained with the help of your account number. There are many third party websites which may provide you entire details like branch name, account type, IFSC code, and MICR code, just by providing them with the J&K account number.
