HDFC Credit Card Insurance ensures that the liabilities outstanding to the credit issuer are met duly in the event of accidental death or disability of the credit cardholder. It includes accidental death cover due to air accidents, road/rail accidents, accidental hospitalization expenses, air travel cover, etc.

Accidental death due to road/rail accidents is covered under HDFC Accidental Death Insurance scheme. If eligible, the cardholder will be entitled to insurance up to 5X the credit card limit to a maximum of Rs. 50,00,000.
Exclusions under the policy are risk associated with the injury caused by surgery, nuclear energy risk, the risk associated with offshore activities, perils of professional activities such as military or police, suicide, activities under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Items purchased through the insured HDFC Credit Card are covered, provided the cardholder declares the date of purchase of the items and their value. The coverage is valid up to 180 days and is limited to assets purchased above Rs. 5,000 using the insured credit card. The coverage of personal portable equipment is Rs. 25,000 per item. The maximum sum assured for other items is Rs. 2,00,000. The customer must report the details of damage or loss to the bank within 48 hours of the incident.
Exclusions under the policy are loss of articles easily combustible in nature, bills of exchange and bonds, jewellery, manuscript, share certificates, business books or documents of any kind.
The customer is eligible to avail insurance benefits on HDFC Credit Cards on the completion of at least 4 transactions of Rs. 100 and above using the HDFC Credit Card in a calendar month. It is mandatory for the customer to carry out 4 Non-ATM/E Commerce transactions in the month prior to the month of the accident to be eligible to avail Insurance on credit cards.
The following steps sum up the claims procedure for Accidental Death Insurance:
Step 1: The legal heir must intimate accidental death within 30 days of the event at bankclaims@hdfcergo.com
Step 2: Relevant documents must be submitted within 60 days from the date of demise at bankclaims@hdfcergo.com
Step 3: The concerned department shall verify the claims and revert for claims received within three working days
Step 4: HDFC Ergo is to process and settle the claim to the customer’s account if all the documents are as per the checklist
Steps given below sums up the claims procedure for Purchase Protection Insurance:
Step 1: The customer has to report the loss within 15 days of the event at bankclaims@hdfcergo.com
Step 2: The customer must submit all relevant documents at bankclaims@hdfcergo.com within 45 days after the date of loss

What are the documents necessary to make a claim on the purchase protection policy?
The claimant has to submit a duly-filled and signed Claim Form, copy of FIR Report, invoice copy of damaged/lost items, transaction summary and credit card statement (6 months before the date of loss).
