A cashback credit card can help you earn the best rewards in the simplest way, by offering a portion of your purchase as direct cashback. In comparison to earning rewards, cashback is less complicated, as there is no hassle of accumulating and redeeming; value back is directly credited into your card account or a linked wallet.
The different cashback features offered on these cards, is listed as follows:
Cashback SBI Credit Card: Suitable for online transactions
Cashback not applicable on Merchant EMI, Flexipay EMI transactions, Utility, Insurance, Fuel, Rent, Wallet, School & Educational Services, Jewelry, and Railways.
Axis Bank Ace Credit Card: Suitable for utility bill payments
Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card: Suitable for Flipkart loyalists
As we have mentioned above, each card offers maximum value on one category along with decent cashback across all other transactions. You should choose a card that aligns with your spending preferences and yields you the maximum benefits on your major spending category. Here are a few points to keep in mind:
If you don’t have any such preferences as listed above, for choosing the right card, you can check the maximum value these cards can offer across multiple categories and brands. For your help, we have curated an illustration below with a total monthly spend of Rs. 50,000, divided across multiple spends, to derive how much you can save in a month with these cards.
| Transaction | Brand | Amount | Cashback SBI Credit Card | Axis Bank Ace Credit Card | Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card |
| Food delivery | Swiggy | Rs. 2,000 | Rs. 100 | Rs. 80 | Rs. 80 |

*rounded off to the nearest figure.
From the above illustration, we can infer the following:
(i) Both Axis Ace and Flipkart Axis Bank offer accelerated cashback on Swiggy, of 4%. As per the illustrated amount above, both these cards offer equal value back of Rs. 80 on spending Rs. 2,000 in a month.
However, the scenario here might change with the rise in the spending value, due to the monthly capping on earning cashback. You can earn a maximum of Rs. 500 on Swiggy cumulative with the other spends eligible in the 4-5% on Ace credit card. Thus, even if you spend Rs. 30,000 exclusively on Swiggy, you will earn a cashback of Rs 500.
With Flipkart Axis Bank there is no maximum capping, so for instance, if you spend Rs. 30,000 on Swiggy you can earn a higher cashback value of Rs. 1,200.
(ii) Due a high cashback rate of 5%, in comparison to other cards, Cashback SBI surpasses the value back offered, even on the co-branded partners with Axis Ace and Flipkart Axis. For instance, on Swiggy, both these cards offer a return of Rs. 80 on a value of Rs. 2,000, but SBI card offers Rs. 100.
(iii) Flipkart Axis Bank and Cashback SBI Card offer no returns on Utility bill payments, a major category left uncovered even while these cards target ‘everyday spends’. Thus, Axis Ace is a clear winner in this category. However, the benefit here is limited to bill payments on Google Pay. Thus, suitable for those who already use Google Pay, or can consider switching from other sources of payments like Paytm, PhonePe etc.
(iv) After the recent devaluation on the Flipkart Axis Credit Card the card now offers highest cashback only on Flipkart. Earlier, you could also earn 5% on travel bookings via Flipkart which is now reduced to 1.5% Thus, with a high value back of 5% across all online spends, Cashback SBI wins over Flipkart Axis Bank in offering better travel benefits even on the major partner, Flipkart.
(v) If you would also consider using your cashback card for offline spends, you can choose Axis Ace as it offers the highest cashback in this category, with no capping. Thus, it turns out to be a clear winner for those, who prefer shopping offline.
(vi) For popular and untapped brands like Nykaa, Blinkit, etc. and general grocery spends, Cashback SBI can be a great option, as the card offers the highest cashback of 5%, without any merchant and category biases online. For instance, if you frequently shop groceries online, you may consider getting the SBI card, as with it you can earn 5% back on Blinkit, BigBasket, Zepto, etc.
(vii) If you are someone who frequently commutes via Ola Cabs and Uber, you can note that Axis Ace and Flipkart Axis offer 4% cashback on these brands, respectively. Again, Axis Ace has capped the maximum capping to Rs. 500, whereas there is no capping on Flipkart Axis. Thus, Flipkart Axis is a clear winner here. However, Cashback SBI Card offers 5% cashback on these online payments as well, giving the highest value.
(viii) Understand that deriving the maximum value back, is subject to the spending patterns and most importantly, on monthly cashback limitations offered on the card. On that basis, Flipkart Axis Bank has an edge over the other two cards, as it comes with no cash back capping across all categories.
| Cashback SBI Credit Card | Rs. 5,000 per month |
| Axis Bank Ace Credit Card | Rs. 500 for utility bills+Zomato, Swiggy & Ola; Unlimited across other categories |
| Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card | Unlimited cashback across all categories |
No capping on flipkart axis bank is a clear win, especially for heavy spenders, who would like to put most expenses on their credit card.
Welcome Benefits: Amongst the three, only Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card offers the card activation benefit, as follows:
At a joining fee of Rs. 500, Flipkart Axis Bank offers a welcome benefit of around Rs. 1,100, thus, the value surpassed the fee charged. Additionally, it can be utilized across multiple day-to-day brands, adding more to the overall saving quotient for the card.
In comparison, Cashback SBI Cards and Axis Bank Ace do not offer any welcome benefits. However, considering that Axis Bank Ace Credit Card, comes at a low annual fee, and even offers ‘unlimited’ cashback on a certain category (non-partnered spends), this can still be accepted. But for Cashback SBI Card, no welcome benefit can be a big drawback, since it comes at a comparatively highest fee, but also limits the cashback earning across all categories to a total of Rs. 5,000 a month.
Fee Waiver: The annual fee waiver conditions offered by these cards are as follows:
To attain the annual fee waiver on the Cashback SBI Card and Axis Bank Ace Credit Card, you need to spend around Rs. 17,000 per month. The target on these cards is understandable, and attainable, keeping in view the benefits offered. You can easily meet it by putting most of your expenses on your credit card, even when you are not a high spender.
However, Flipkart Axis Bank has set the fee waiver target to the highest with Rs. 3.5 Lakh a year. Thus, you need to spend around Rs. 30,000 per month. For a low-fee card, targeted towards beginners, and mostly co-branded benefits offered, the target seems high.
Lounge Access: Both Flipkart Axis Bank and Axis Bank Ace offer access to 4 domestic lounge visits in a quarter. Cashback SBI Card, on the other hand, offers no lounge access even with the comparatively highest fee charged. While it might not impact someone getting this card only for benefits on online transactions, it might hamper the needs of those, expecting at least basic travel benefits on their card. Additionally, it may be a concern for beginners, who only own a single card, as that way, they do not have any free lounge access to enjoy!
Dining: Both Flipkart Axis Bank and Axis Bank Ace Credit Card both offer direct dining discounts of up to 20% off at partner restaurants in India (up to Rs. 500). SBI Card on the other hand, offers no direct benefits on dining, however, with 5% cashback online without any merchant restrictions, you can still save on your dining- provided you use your card for dining payments across online platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, etc. Here is how you can save on dining:
Illustration: We have assumed Rs. 4,000 as spent on dining, across partnered restaurants for Flipkart Axis and Axis Ace, whereas paid via Swiggy/Zomato for Cashback SBI Card.
| Credit Card | Feature | Calculation | Maximum Cashback |
| Axis Bank Ace Credit Card | Up to 20% off at partner restaurants in India (max dis. Rs. 500) | 20% of Rs. 4,000 = Rs. 800 | Rs. 500 |
| Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card | Up to 20% off at partner restaurants in India (max dis. Rs. 500) | 20% of Rs. 4,000 = Rs. 800 | Rs. 500 |
| Cashback SBI Card | 5% cashback on all online spends | 5% of Rs. 4,000 = Rs. 200 | Rs. 200 |
With the cashback SBI Card, you can earn cashback only if you make online transactions but an important point to consider is that, the card offers a capping of Rs. 5,000 per month on earning cashback across all spends. Thereby, earning a huge value back on dining frequently, might mean compromising cashback on other major categories like grocery or apparel shopping. However, if dining is your major expense, you can maximize this feature conveniently.
Which Card Should You Get?
Getting the right cashback credit card can help you save a lot, especially when you put most of the day-to-day expenses on your card. To choose the best card, you must compare the card’s features and benefits, and choose one that matches best with your spending patterns and lifestyle habits. You can make a choice as per the following:
Choose Cashback SBI Credit Card, if:
| Maximum Savings With CashBack SBI Credit Card | ||||
| Feature | 5% cashback on online transactions | 1% cashback on offline transaction | Annual Fee Waiver on spending Rs. 2 Lakh | 1% fuel surcharge waiver |
| Savings per Month | Rs. 5,000* | – | Rs. 100 | |
| Savings per Annum | Rs. 60,000* | Rs. 999 | Rs. 1,200 | |
| Total Savings: Rs. 5,100 per month | Rs. 62,199 per annum | ||||
*To earn a maximum cashback of Rs. 5,000 per month or Rs. 60,000 per year, you need to spend around Rs. 1 Lakh a month, or Rs. 12 Lakh per year.
Choose Axis Bank Ace Credit Card, if:
| Maximum Savings With Axis Bank Ace Credit Card | ||||||
| Feature | 5% cashback on utility bill payments via GooglePay | 4% cashback on Swiggy, Zomato & Ola | 2% cashback on all other spends | Up to 20% off at partner restaurants | Annual fee waiver on sending Rs. 2 Lakh | 1% fuel surcharge waiver |
| Savings per month | Rs. 500 | Unlimited | Rs. 500** | – | Rs. 500 | |
| Savings per Annum | Rs. 6,000 | Unlimited | Rs. 6,000 | Rs. 499 | Rs. 6,000 | |
| Total Savings: Min. Rs. 1,500 per month | Min: Rs. 18,499 | ||||||
*The estimated values are calculated excluding the unlimited 2% cash back offered on ‘other spends’. The total savings may thus vary across the spend value for other transactions. For instance, if you spend around Rs. 30,000 per month on this category, you will earn a cashback of Rs. 600 per month and Rs. 7,200 per year. Thus, your total monthly and annual savings will rise to Rs. 2,100 per month and Rs. 25,699 a year.
** We have assumed one dining transaction done in a month.
Choose Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card, if:
| Maximum Savings with Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card | |||||
| Feature | 5% cashback on Flipkart | 1.5% cash back all other categories | 1% fuel surcharge waiver | Up to 20% off partner restaurants | Annual fee waiver on spending Rs. 3.5 Lakh |
| Savings per month | Unlimited Cashback | Rs. 400 | Rs. 500* | – | |
| Savings per Annum | Unlimited Cashback | Rs. 4,800 | Rs. 6,000 | Rs. 500 | |
| Total Savings: Rs. 900 per month + unlimited cashback as per spending value | Min: Rs. 11,300+unlimited cashback as per spending value | |||||
The above calculation is done excluding the unlimited cashback category. For the exact total savings, including spends eligible for unlimited cashback, the value might vary depending upon how much you spend.
Let’s assume you spend Rs. 20,000 on Flipkart and Rs.10,000 on other spends,a month. You will earn a cashback of Rs. 1,000+ Rs. 150= Rs. 1,150 in a month. Thereby, your total savings will rise to Rs. 2,050 on spending Rs. 1 Lakh a year, and to Rs. 35,900 on spending Rs. 12 Lakh a year.
* We have assumed one dining transaction done in a month.
