To understand this better, let us compare Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card (with monthly capping) with Axis Ace (with no monthly capping). To get a clear comparative view, we have also added Cashback SBI Card, which comes with a high general cashback rate but no benefits on utility bill payments.
Transaction Type | Transaction Value (in Rs.) | Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card (in Rs.) | Axis Ace Credit Card (in Rs.) | Cashback SBI Card (in Rs.) |
Electricity Bill | 6,000 | 250 | 300 | 0 |
Mobile Bill | 3,000 | 150 | 150 | 0 |
DTH Bill | 1,000 | 100 | 50 | 0 |
Water Bill | 1,000 | 0 | 50 | 0 |
Zomato | 2,000 | 200 | 80 | 100 |
Bigbasket | 5,000 | 300 | 75 | 250 |
Ola | 2,000 | 20 | 80 | 100 |
Apparel Purchase | 5,000 | 50 | 75 | 250 |
Fuel | 5,000 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Total | 30,000 | 1,070 | 860 | 700 |
*In the above example, we have assumed that the utility bill payments are made via the co-branded platform. In case of Airtel Axis Card, it will be Airtel Thanks app and in case of Axis Ace, it would be Google Pay.
Here, we realise that for transactions like mobile bills and utility bills, a capping of Rs. 250 per month for Airtel Axis cardholders is too low, since these transactions are usually high value. But this card still offers a considerable value-back when compared to other similar credit cards. You can make the most of Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card if you use it for your spends on the Airtel Thanks app and put rest of the expenses on a card that gives a higher value back across other categories without any capping.

Offering the maximum cashback on spends made via Airtel Thanks App, this credit card is best-suited for those who are already in the Airtel ecosystem or are planning to come onboard. Moreover, the card also rewards its users for utility bill payments. Since most credit cards keep utility bills in the excluded category, this card is a good option for those looking to save on this category of spends.
Axis Ace is another credit card by Axis Bank that offers cashback on utility bill payments (made via Google Pay). So, if you are not an Airtel customer but wish to earn cashback on utilities as well as other spends, Axis Ace would be a better choice for you. |
However, cashback on Airtel Axis Bank credit card comes with monthly capping. So, you would only be able to maximize benefits on limited spends every month, as shown below:
The above calculation is done on the basis of cashback rate and the maximum capping. For example, for Airtel Bills you get 25% cashback but only up to Rs. 250 per month. This means you can avail this benefit on monthly transaction value of Rs. 1,000 only.
