ICICI Bank HPCL Coral is a co-branded fuel credit card that largely caters to consumers who prefer HPCL fuel pumps over others. At a very low annual fee of just Rs. 199, the card offers a good 3.5% savings on fuel (including a 1% fuel surcharge waiver). Additionally, it allows rewards on all transactions, including the often restricted ones like utility bills and insurance payments—a too-good feature for an entry-level card. For lifestyle benefits, cardholders can avail benefits on movie tickets via BookMyShow and dining discounts via the issuer’s Culinary Treats Programme.
HPCL offers more co-branded cards with other issuers—IDFC FIRST Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, and one more variant with ICICI—ICICI HPCL Super Saver. However, the HPCL Coral is closely comparable with IDFC’s base variant—IDFC FIRST Power. Both cards come at a similar fee of Rs. 199, but the value back on the IDFC card is higher at 5%, due to an additional 1.5% value back via HappyCoins—a benefit offered on all HPCL variants except ICICI’s Coral. Additionally, the Power card also offers incremental rewards on non-fuel categories like grocery, utility, and FASTag, and welcome benefits that are worth up to Rs. 2,250 that justify the fee by a wide margin. Over Power, Coral has an edge only for offering the movie benefits.
