Types of SBI Savings Account

Country’s largest bank offers several good options in the form of savings account to store money safely. Look at the following options you will get with SBI:

Essential Steps to Open SBI Savings Account

There are two ways of opening a savings account in SBI – Offline and Online.

Steps to Open SBI Savings Account Online
  • Visit the official website of SBI and click on ‘Apply Now’ button
  • It will redirect you to SBI Yono Online Portal. Alternatively, you can use SBI Yono mobile application as well.
  • On SBI Yono online portal, select between Digital Savings Account and Instant Savings Account
  • After selecting an account of the two, click on the apply button
  • Keep your Aadhaar and PAN card handy
  • Fill in your details and click on the ’Submit’ button
  • In the case of a Digital Savings Account, a single branch visit is required
  • In the case of Insta Savings Account, no branch visit is required and your account is verified using OTP based e-KYC
Steps to Open SBI Savings Account Offline
  • Visit the nearest State Bank of India branch
  • Ask the bank executive to provide you with an account opening form.
  • You will be required to provide your personal details such as full name, address, signature, etc.
  • Fill in all information correctly and wisely. Each detail mentioned in the form should match the details given in the Know Your Customer (KYC) documents that have been attached.
  • Provide all the necessary documents such as proof of identity, residence proof etc.
  • Keep the initial deposit amount with you while submitting the form and documents.
  • After documents’ verification, you will be provided with a starter kit (cheque book and passbook).
  • Simultaneously, you can fill the internet banking form too.

SBI Savings Account Starter or Welcome Kit

Either you apply online or offline, following the approval, you will get a welcome kit to use. The welcome or starter kit will contain:

  • SBI Debit cum ATM Card with a secret PIN number
  • Cheque Book of 10 leaves

While receiving the welcome kit, make sure you have a sealed welcome kit. If it is not, immediately contact the bank and inform them.

Eligibility Criteria for Opening an SBI Savings Account

Eligibility Criteria for Opening an SBI Savings Account
  • You should be a citizen or resident of India
  • You should be at least 18 years of age or above
  • In case you are below 18 years, the local guardian or parents of the minor can open the savings account on his behalf
  • You should have valid proof of address and proof of identity
  • SBI offers different savings accounts, so after getting approval from the branch, you will be required to make a deposit, depending on the requirement of that account.

Documents required to open a Savings Account with SBI

To open an SBI savings account, you will need the following documents with a duly filled account opening form and recent passport sized photographs:

SBI Savings Accounts Nomination Facility

A few times back, the Government of India has mandated the nomination facility for all savings accounts. Following the directive, all SBI accounts holders are now required to nominate the beneficiary who can operate their account after them.

When filling out the account opening form, you will have to choose a nominee. In case if the nominee is below 18 years of age, he or she will be permitted to operate and manage the account after completing 18 years. Following the death of an account holder, the nominated person can manage the account on his or her behalf.
