New customers must generate a PIN to begin using their card for ATM withdrawals, as well as for online and in-store transactions. Existing customers also need to activate or enable their debit cards for various purposes, such as online payments, international usage, or contactless transactions based on their specific needs and requirements.

Once your new HDFC Debit Card is issued, you will be required to activate it before you make any online or offline transaction. Additionally, you might also be required to activate, modify or revise the spending limits on your card for different transaction types. Here, we have covered information about HDFC bank debit card activation for new and existing customers.

All HDFC Debit Cards allow online, contactless and international transactions. To use your card for these transactions, you are however required to enable the same. You can also modify the limits for such transactions, as per your requirement and convenience.
Step 1: Log in to your HDFC Net Banking account.
Step 2: Navigate to option ‘Cards’ as appearing on the horizontal menu bar.
Step 3: Choose option ‘Debit Cards’ and click on ‘Request’.
Step 4: Here select option, ‘Set Card Controls/Usage Limits’ and choose a card for which you want to set the limit, and click on ‘Continue’.
Step 5: Now select option, ‘Daily Domestic Usage/Limits’.
Step 6: Navigate to option, ‘Online Usage’ and choose ‘ON’.
Step 7: Set the limit here and click on ‘Confirm’.

How to modify limit for online transactions via Internet banking? If you have already activated online transactions on your HDFC Debit Card, you can modify the limit by following the same steps as listed above, however,

Step 1: Login to the HDFC mobile banking app.
Step 2: Navigate to the option ‘menu’ appearing on the top left.
Step 3: Now select option ‘Pay’ and then ‘Cards’.
Step 4: Here choose ‘Debit cards’ and click on the arrow appearing on the right.
Step 5: Select option ‘Show More’, for the card you wish to set the limit for and choose option ‘Customize’ appearing for ‘Limits’.
Step 6: Turn the toggle on/off for online transactions appearing under ‘domestic limits’ and set the limit by dragging the cursor.

How to modify limit for online transactions via mobile banking? You can also modify the limit for online transactions via mobile banking by dragging the cursor on the amount scale. Follow these steps:

Note: Please note that the limit for online transactions must be equal or less than the merchant outlets limits.
Step 1: Log in to your HDFC Net Banking account on the authorized portal.
Step 2: Choose option ‘card’ as appearing on the horizontal menu bar and select ‘Debit Cards’ and click on ‘Request’.
Step 3: Navigate to ‘Set Card Controls/Usage Limits’ and select a card for which you want to set the limit.
Step 4: Click on ‘Continue’ and select option, ‘Daily International Usage/Limits’.
Step 5: To turn the contactless transactions on, you can choose option ‘ON’.
Step 1: Login to HDFC mobile banking app.
Step 2: Click on ‘menu’ as appearing on the top left side.
Step 3: Now, navigate to option ‘Pay’ and then ‘Cards’, followed by ‘Debit Cards’.
Step 4: Click on the arrow appearing on the right, and select option ‘show more’, for the card you wish to set the limit for.
Step 5: Now, click on option ‘Customize’ appearing corresponding to option ‘Limits’.
Step 6: Here, turn the toggle on/off for contactless transactions appearing under ‘domestic limits’.
Note: As per RBI Guidelines, the maximum limit for contactless transactions is Rs. 5,000 per transaction. To enable contactless transactions for international transactions, you need to follow the same steps as listed above but after enabling international transactions with the steps as mentioned below.

Step 2: Select option ‘card’ as appearing on the horizontal menu bar on the top of the screen.
Step 3: Choose the ‘Debit Cards’ option and click on ‘Request’.
Step 4: Now choose the option, ‘Set Card Controls/Usage Limits’ and select a card for which you want to set the limit.

Step 6: To turn the international transactions on, you can choose option ‘ON’.

Step 6: To enable or disable international transactions, turn the toggle on/off.

Step 1: Visit HDFC Bank net banking portal and click on the ‘cards’ tab.
Step 2: Go to the ‘Debit Cards’ menu.

To activate your HDFC Bank ATM Card through mobile banking, follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Log in to HDFC mobile banking and navigate to the cards tab.
Step 2: Go to the debit card menu and choose ‘Instant PIN Generation’ option.
Step 3: Now, select your debit card number and create a new debit card PIN.
Step 4: You need to authenticate the PIN generation transaction with OTP received on your registered mobile number.
Step 5: Once done, your debit card will be activated.
To activate HDFC Bank Debit Card through ATM, you must follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit the nearest HDFC Bank ATM.
Step 2: Insert your Debit Card and enter the ATM PIN*.
Step 3: Once you enter the ATM PIN, you will be asked to change your ATM PIN.
Step 4: You can now set a new ATM PIN for making transactions.
*Once you get your welcome kit from the bank, along with the Debit Card, there is an ATM pin given in a sealed envelope.
