How to activate Axis Bank Debit Card

You can either use internet banking, Axis Mobile app, or Axis phone banking to enable your Axis debit card for international payments and withdrawals. The steps to modify your debit card usage preference and activate international transactions are described below using different methods.

Via Internet Banking

Step 1: Login using your ID and password.
Step 2: Tap on the ‘Services’ option and click on ‘Debit Card Services’ from the menu.
Step 3: Choose the debit card and select the ‘More Services’ option.
Step 4: Click on ‘Manage Usage’ and select the option for International usage.
Step 5: Enable international usage and confirm.

Via Axis Mobile App ‘Open’

Step 1: Login using your ID and password.
Step 2: Go to the banking section and click on the ‘Services’ option.
Step 3: Choose the ‘Debit Cards’ option and click on ‘Manage Usage’.
Step 4: Select the debit card and choose the international usage link.
Step 5: Confirm the activation of the international transactions on your card.

Via Phone Banking

You can also activate international transactions on Axis credit card or debit card by calling on the Axis Bank phone banking numbers using a mobile phone or landline. Apart from the above discussed ways, you can also change the usage preference to international usage through any of the Axis Bank ATMs.

Usually the Axis debit cards do not have the online or e-commerce transactions enabled when they are issued. Also, if you have not used your card for online purchases for a long time, the online payment service of the Axis card gets disabled. In such cases, you can activate the online transactions on your Axis Bank card via NetBanking, Axis Mobile app, or phone banking.

Using Online Mode

To activate your debit card for e-commerce and other online transactions, you can follow the steps as mentioned above through Axis Bank internet banking or Axis Mobile app. Here, after choosing the ‘Manage Usage’ option, click on domestic/international usage and then enable the online transactions.

Using Phone Banking

You can also activate online transactions through Axis phone banking by making a call on the numbers given in the table above.

Axis Bank also provides the option to activate contactless transactions through the Axis debit cards for faster payments of up to Rs. 5,000 per transaction. To enable this service, you can either use the Axis Mobile app or internet banking. The steps to be followed are similar to those discussed above. You can find the option to activate contactless payments under the “Manage Usage’ section.

Note: While modifying the usage limits and access of your Axis Bank debit card, you may have to enter the last 6 digits of the Unique Reference Number (URN). The URN starts with DCXXXXXXXXXX and can be found on the top right corner of the Axis Bank welcome letter.

The new users can activate their Axis card by using it at any Axis bank ATM or making a purchase with it. For this, you need to first generate your Debit Card PIN. You can do it through various online and offline modes as given below:

Steps to activate Axis Bank Debit Card via Axis Bank ATMs

To activate the Axis debit or credit card, you can generate PIN through any Axis Bank ATM. For this, you need to first register your mobile number by going to the nearest Axis Bank branch or inserting your card in the Axis Bank ATM and entering the PIN. Choose ‘SMS Banking Registration/Update’ and enter your number for verification. The steps to generate your ATM debit card PIN  for debit card activation are as follows:

Step 1: Insert your Axis card at any Axis Bank ATM and click on ‘Set PIN’ to send an activation code to your registered mobile number.
Step 2: Then, enter this code along with other account details like registered mobile number and date of birth.
Step 3: Set your desired card PIN when asked on the screen. The new PIN will be generated immediately, after which you can start using your Axis Bank card.

Note: For Joint Axis account holders, the details like date of birth need to be given as per the primary account holder.

How to activate Axis Bank Debit Card using Axis Mobile App?

You can also generate a new PIN to activate your debit card using the Axis bank mobile banking app ‘open’. Follow the procedure described below for the same:

Step 1: Login to the Axis Mobile app and tap on the ‘Home’ button on the top left corner.
Step 2: Go to the ‘Banking’ section and select the ‘Services’ option.
Step 3: Choose the ‘Debit Card’ option and tap on ‘Set/Reset PIN’.
Step 4: Select your debit card and enter the new 4-digit PIN, re-enter the PIN, and then type in the MPIN.

How to activate Axis Bank Debit Card through Internet banking?

To know how to activate Axis bank ATM card, follow the steps given below using the internet banking account to generate debit card ATM PIN:

Step 1: Login to the Axis internet banking account and select the ‘Cards’ option on the dashboard page.
Step 2: Go to ‘Debit Cards’ and choose the ‘Change PIN’ option.
Step 3: Enter and re-enter the new 4-digit PIN, then confirm.
Step 4: Enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your registered mobile number and confirm.
Step 5: The confirmation of setting a new PIN will be shown on screen and sent via SMS too.

You can also set your Axis bank card PIN via net banking by using the ‘Services’ tab, then choosing the ‘Debit Card’ option. After this, you can go to ‘Change PIN’ and enter the new PIN to activate the card.

How to activate Axis Bank Debit Card by phone banking?

Axis phone banking is another option using which you can generate your debit card PIN and activate your card. There are 2 steps to get a new PIN using phone banking:

Step 1: Get Activation Passcode

Call the Axis phone banking number at 1860-419-5555/ 1860-500-5555 from your registered mobile number and choose ‘Option 1’ for bank account information. Then opt for ‘Option 4’ for debit card services and choose the generate PIN option. Dial 1 to generate activation passcode. Next, enter your Axis card number, expiry date and DOB.

Step 2: Generate PIN

After you receive the activation code on your registered number, dial the Axis phone banking number again. Select ‘Option 1’ and then ‘Option 4’ like before. Then select the ‘Generate PIN’ option. Enter card details and DOB, and dial 2. Type in the card details and DOB again, along with the activation code. Generate new PIN and get the PIN details through SMS.
