SBI Credit Card Eligibility Criteria for Salaried & Self-Employed Individuals

The eligibility criteria for both salaried and self-employed individuals may vary from each other for every credit card . However, there are certain common norms that are followed while checking their eligibility as mentioned below:

Age Requirement

SBI Card has set a minimum and maximum age limit for the applicants to avail credit cards. Your age should be between 21 and 70 years at the time of applying for an SBI credit card.

Credit Score

Your credit score must be above average to obtain an SBI Credit Card. In general, a credit score of 700 and above is preferred. Additionally, you should not have any default payments in your credit history.

Regular Income

If you intend to obtain an SBI Credit card, you must have a regular flow of income. Moreover, your income should meet the SBI Card’s minimum salary eligibility for the credit card you are applying for. Note that the premium credit cards usually have a high income requirement as compared to the entry-level cards.

Documentation

You should be able to provide valid proof of identity, address and income. The set of documents may vary according to the card and your type of occupation.

Factors Affecting SBI Credit Card Eligibility

Although the eligibility criteria for SBI Credit Cards differ from one card to another, there are a few factors that directly impact your chances of approval. The factors affecting your eligibility are as follows:

  • Credit Profile: Your credit profile is made up of your credit score and credit history. A longer, well-managed credit history leads to a better credit score, improving your chances of approval. A credit score of 750 and above is usually considered good.
  • Job Stability: Credit Card issuers would want you to have a regular source of income so that you may be able to repay the amount borrowed. Thereby, job stability plays a major role in it. People who switch jobs every 6 months may be considered a risk by the issuers as compared to those who continue a job for more than 1 year.
  • Number of Credit Inquiries: This is also related to your credit profile. Every loan or credit card application you submit leads to a hard inquiry on your credit report. Once this happens, your credit score may drop. This is why it is not advised to apply for multiple loans or credit cards at the same time. People who apply for too many loans are considered as credit hungry, and hence their approval chances may decline.
  • Location: In order to be eligible for SBI credit card, you should have a residential address in a location served, and not black-listed, by SBI Card. There are very few such cities or remote areas where SBI Card does not serve.
