Permanent Account Number is a 10-digit alphanumeric code, commonly called as PAN which is used by taxpayers to carry out financial transactions. The alphanumeric code is a computer generated system which is unique to the holder of the card. Through this major feature, all the tax related information of any person is recorded against a single PAN number which also acts as a key storage of an individual’s financial information. With the availability of PAN, individuals and non-individuals will be able to purchase and sell assets and conduct the financial transactions and take benefits of government subsidies.

The charge made by the authorities to avail PAN card depends upon the address of the individual or entity. It is different for foreigners and domestic country citizens.
PAN Card Fees and Charges in India
For applicants residing in India, they need to pay a fee of Rs 110, which includes a processing fee of Rs 93.00 plus GST of 18.00%. As there were some of the discrepancies found in country, Government of India decided to have a uniform fee for availing PAN Card for the applicants. Any individual or non-individual entities of income-earning profile are on high-priority to possess PAN card. Availing PAN card will allow the user to carry out financial transaction with ease and take advantage of the government subsidies allowed by the government. It is important for the citizens to pay taxes and helps in the development of the nation.
Fees and Charges of PAN card for citizens outside the country
India is developing at a very fast pace, thus encouraging foreign investors to invest in India. Here as well, PAN is a very important document for them to carry out their financial transactions. For carrying out transactions in India, individual/entities need to have a PAN card. Applicants must follow the same procedure as that of residents of India. For citizens outside the country who want to avail PAN Card, Government charges a fee of Rs 1020.00 which includes Application fee of Rs. 93.00 + Dispatch charges of Rs. 771 + GST of 18.00%. Citizens residing outside the country after availing PAN card can easily carry out business in India.
Charges for Reprint/Changes in PAN Card in India/Abroad
PAN card holders who have lost/damaged their PAN card or are in a position to get their information corrected on the PAN card need to pay a fee of Rs. 110 which includes processing fee of Rs. 93.00 plus GST of 18.00%. This charge is applicable for the holders who have communication address within India. PAN card holders who have communication address outside India need to pay a charge of Rs. 1020 which includes Application fee of Rs. 93.00 + Dispatch charges of Rs. 771 + GST of 18.00 % to get it processed.
Modes of Payment for PAN Card Charges
There are different modes of payment for the applicants willing to possess PAN card outside or within the communication address. Let’s have a look at the modes of payment for availing PAN Card:
- For communication address within India: PAN card holders residing within the communication address can pay the fee/charges through Debit Cards/ Credit cards, Demand Drafts or Net Banking. It should be noted that card holders will be levied an additional charge of up to 2.00% on the application fee payment by Debit cards/Credit cards, which is generally charged by banks. Also, payments made through Demand Draft should only be accepted, if the DD is drawn in favor of “NSDL-PAN”, payable at Mumbai. If any of the card applicants/holders want to pay through Net Banking mode, they will have to pay a surcharge of Rs.4 plus service tax.
- For communication address outside India: Citizens residing outside the communication address can follow the same mode of payments to process further. PAN card holders can pay through Debit cards/Credit cards, Demand Drafts or Net Banking. Abroad residents have to pay additional conversion or exchange charges imposed by the banks to avail benefits, rest of the fees remains the same. Payments made through demand draft shall only be accepted if its drawn in the favor of ‘NSDL-PAN’, payable at Mumbai.
As PAN is a valuable document needed by every income-earning individual or non-individual, it comes with several benefits for the residents within/outside the communication address. There is no provision of fee refund by the Income Tax department of India, if the application form gets rejected, either on ground of incorrect or incomplete information. One can re-apply for the PAN card with correct information using the same payment details.
