PAN card can be updated online either through NSDL or UTIITSL. One can follow the steps mentioned below to update their PAN online.

How to Update PAN Card on NSDL e-Gov (Protean) Portal

You can easily correct/update PAN card details via NSDL (now Protean) website by following the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit https://www.protean-tinpan.com, the official website of NSDL E-Governance.

Step 2:  Under Services Section, Click on “PAN”.

Step 3: Click “Apply” under the “Change/Correction in PAN Data” section.

Step 4: From the ‘Application Type’ dropdown menu, select ‘Changes or Correction in existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in Existing PAN Data)’.

Step 5: From the ‘Category’ dropdown menu, select the correct category of the assessee, For example, if the PAN is registered in your name, select ‘Individual’ from the list.

Step 6: Now, enter your name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number.

Step 7: Fill the Captcha and click on “Submit”.

Step 8: Your request will be registered and a Token Number will be sent to the email ID provided by you. You can continue the process by clicking the button given below it.

Step 9: After you proceed, you will be redirected to the PAN card update form – there are three options to submit your documents, click on “Submit scanned images through e-Sign on NSDL e-gov”.

Step 10: Fill in all the necessary details such as your father’s name, mother’s name (optional), your Aadhaar number and click on ‘Next’.

Step 11: You will now be redirected to a new page where you can update your address.

Step 12: Upload all the necessary documents such as proof of address, proof of age, proof of identity and PAN.

Step 13:  You need to sign the declaration and click “Submit”.

Step 14: You will be redirected to the payment page. Payment can be made through demand draft, net banking, and Credit card/Debit card.

Step 15:  On successful payment, an acknowledgement slip will be generated. The applicant should take a print of it and send it to the NSDL e-gov office along with the physical proof of documents. Also, affix two photographs in the space provided and sign across it. Write ‘Application for PAN Change’ on top of the envelope along with the acknowledgement number.

How to Update PAN Card on UTIITSL Portal

For PAN card update online via the UTIITSL portal follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL website

Step 2: Under PAN Card Services click on “Apply PAN Card”

Step 3: Under the “Change/Correction in PAN Card” tab, click on “Click to Appy”

Step 4: Click on “Apply for Change/Correction in PAN Card Details”

Step 5:  Choose the mode of document submission, enter your PAN, choose the PAN card mode and click on the “Submit” button.

Step 6: Re-enter your PAN and click on “Ok”

Step 7:  Once the request is registered, you will get a reference number. Click on “Ok”

Step 8:  Enter your name, address and other details and click on the “Next Step” button

Step 9: Enter PAN and verification and click on the “Next Step” button

Step 10: Upload the documents and click on the “Submit” button

It usually takes around 15 days for PAN correction/update. You will receive a text message on your registered mobile number when your PAN card is dispatched via post.

Step 1: Download the PAN card correction form PDF online

Step2:  Fill all the mandatory fields in the form carefully

Step 3: Attach the supporting documents such as proof of identity, proof of address, passport size photographs, etc.

Step 4:  Once done, submit the PAN card update form at the nearest NSDL collection center/PAN center

How to Change Name in PAN Card Offline

Given below are a few key things relating to PAN card name change offline:

• In the case of offline applications, the PAN card form can be downloaded via NSDL or UTIITSL website
• The PAN card Form has to be duly filled keeping in mind to provide all details correctly
• The photograph has to be affixed and the form has to be signed before submitting
• In case of offline application, a demand draft in the name of NSDL/UTIITSL has to be sent along with the application form to the registered address of NSDL/UTIITSL

How to Change Name in PAN Card Online

The following are a few key things relating to PAN card name change process online:

• For PAN card correction online applications, the request can be placed through TIN-NSDL (Protean) or UTIITSL.
• In the case of the online application, the payment has to be made online using debit card or credit card or net banking
• A 15-digit acknowledgement number is generated which can be used to check PAN card update status
• Once submitted successfully, the updated PAN card is delivered to the applicant within 45 days of the application

Also, do remember:

• PAN card does not contain the address of the cardholder
• The address is mentioned in the form to send the PAN card hard copy by post. PAN card address update can be done by filling the application correction form 49A offline
• For forms filled online and authenticated using Aadhaar OTP, the address cannot be changed. The address mentioned in the Aadhaar database is taken as your address by default
• In case you want to change this address, you will have to first get the address updated in your Aadhaar card and then fill PAN Card Form 49A again

There are a host of documents required to update existing PAN details which should be submitted to NSDL/UTIITSL along with the application form. The form and the documents are then submitted to the nearest PAN Card centres that are present across India. Copy of any of these documents should be submitted along with the PAN correction form. In case none of these is available, these can also work –

• A certificate in original signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councillor or a Gazetted officer, as the case may be (in prescribed format) will also work as identity or address proof.
• Bank certificate in Original on letterhead from the branch (along with name and stamp of the issuing officer) containing duly attested photograph and bank account number of the applicant (in prescribed format).
• Employer certificate in original (in prescribed format).

B. For Indian companies/Entities incorporated in India/Unincorporated entities formed in India

Proof of Address:

• Passport
• Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by the Government of India
• Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card issued by the Government of India
• Bank account statement in the country of residence
• Non-resident External(NRE) bank account statement in India
• Certificate of Residence in India or Residential permit issued by the State Police Authorities
• Registration certificate issued by the Foreigner’s Registration Office showing Indian address
• Visa granted & Copy of appointment letter or contract from Indian Company & Certificate (in original) of Indian address issued by the employer
• Other national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number duly attested by ‘Apostille’ (in respect of the countries which are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961) or by the Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located or authorised officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Banks registered in India (in prescribed format)

D. For Corporate Entities having no office of their own in India –Proof of Identity and Address:

• Certificate of Registration issued in the country where the applicant is located, duly attested by ‘Apostille’ (in respect of the countries which are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961) or by the Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located or authorised officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Banks registered in India (in prescribed format)
• Registration certificate issued in India or of approval granted to set up an office in India by Indian Authorities

Can I change my PAN number online?

There is no provision to change PAN number online or offline. However, you can update other details mentioned in the PAN card.

How to request corrections in my PAN card details online?

You can fill the form online and place a request for making modifications in the PAN details either through the NSDL portal or the UTIITSL portal.

Yes, you need to fill the same form 49A at the time of applying for a fresh PAN card if you are an Indian citizen. For people who are not citizens of India, they have to fill form 49AA for the same. No, it is not necessary to update your PAN card in case there is a change in your address since PAN card does not contain your address. The address needs to be mentioned in the PAN card enrollment form only to send you the PAN card hard copy by post. Step 3: Attach the supporting documents such as the proof of identity, proof of address, passport size photographs, etc.

Step 4:  Once done, submit the form at the nearest NSDL collection centre/PAN centre

Step 5: You will have to pay the charges for applying for a new PAN Card i.e.  Rs. 107 in case the communication address is an Indian address and Rs. 1017 in case the communication address is a foreign address (including taxes). These charges are applicable when you apply for PAN by visiting a PAN center or when you apply online but submit the PAN documents physically.

Step 6: You will get a 15-digit acknowledgement number to check PAN card correction status/PAN card update status

Note:  You also need to file a letter with the jurisdictional Assessing Officer. The required fields in the offline form are similar to those in the online form. However, there are a few points one should keep in mind-

• Once you submit the form, you will get an acknowledgement slip which is to be sent to NSDL office/PAN card centre. This letter should reach the office within 15 days of filing the request
