Axis Magnus has risen the charts fast, to become one of India’s most popular premium travel credit cards, owing to its high reward rate, excellent redemption ratio and the unique monthly milestone feature.
Post two rounds of devaluation, what still works for Axis Magnus is its reward earning rate of 12 points per Rs. 200. High-spenders who can reach Rs. 1.5 Lakh mark in a month can get even better value of 35 points per Rs. 200 and accumulate considerable points. The only problem here is that several high-ticket spend categories like utilities, jewellery, fuel, etc. are excluded from the rewards program as well as from spend milestone calculation.
Axis Bank has more airlines and hotels in their miles transfer program than HDFC Bank and cardholders can get a decent value on transferring points to miles at a ratio of 5:2. But when compared to other premium cards like HDFC Infinia and HDFC Diners Club Black, Magnus’ redemption rate looks low. Moreover, as travel partners are divided into Group A and Group B with maximum transfer limits of 1 Lakh and 4 Lakh respectively, consumers who are loyal to select airlines and hotels in Group A may not be able to maximize the card’s benefits.
Overall, Magnus may still hold value for high-spenders who also travel often as they can accumulate considerable number of points and redeem the same for travel benefits. However, those who seek additional premium features like concierge, airport meet and greet or all-round lifestyle benefits should consider other options.

Reward Earning
On Axis Magnus Credit Card, users can earn reward points in the following manner1:
Reward Redemption
You can redeem your accumulated reward points at the EDGE Rewards catalog and choose between a variety of vouchers across multiple categories. You can also opt for ‘pay with Points’ at the partner stores. The redemption value against product catalog is 1 Axis EDGE reward point = Rs. 0.20, but may vary across brands and vouchers.
Additionally, Axis Magnus Reward Points can be transferred to select airline/hotel loyalty program in 5:2 ratio. This means for 50,000 Axis EDGE Reward Points, you will be able to get 20,000 partner miles. Currently you can redeem a total of 5,00,000 reward points in a year against partnered airlines and hotel loyalty programs.

However, w.e.f April 20, 2024, the partners will be distinguished as Group A and Group B. While the total capping on the rewards redemption as air mile or hotel points remain the same at 5,00,000, users will be able to transfer maximum of 1,00,000 reward points cumulatively to Group A partners and maximum of 4,00,000 reward points cumulatively to Group B partners in a calendar year2.
Group A:
Group B:
UPDATE: Burgundy account holders can earn the same conversion ratio of 5:4 for air miles and hotel loyalty points conversion. Additionally, Burgundy customers can redeem a maximum of 2 Lakh EDGE reward points for Group A partners and a maximum of 8 Lakh reward REWARD points for Group B partners.

At 6%, the base reward rate of Axis Magnus is one of the highest among premium credit cards. However, due to spend based capping on the reward earning, you can maximize the earning potential of the card if you are able to spend Rs. 1.5 Lakh or more in a month. In Sep 2023, Axis Bank reduced the conversion rate of the reward points earned on Axis Magnus card from 5:4 to 5:2. However, users can earn the same conversion ratio of 5:4 on opening a Burgundy account with the bank. While the latest update of grouping travel partners for redemption has increased the overall count of partners available, it comes as a major demerit for those having travel brand preferences.

Here’s how you can maximize the benefits on your Axis Bank Magnus Credit Card:
1. Accumulate maximum reward points:
Put most expenses on your credit card to earn 35 Axis EDGE points on every Rs. 200. For instance, if you spend around Rs. 2,10,000 a month on major categories like grocery, apparel, consumer durable, etc, you can accumulate around 36,750 points in a month. Spending this value might also help you achieve the annual fee waiver of Rs. 25 Lakh, giving you a clear benefit of additional Rs. 12,500.
Note that you can earn 35 points on every Rs. 200, only when you spend beyond Rs. 1.5 Lakh, otherwise you will earn 12 points per Rs. 200. Thus, to maximize benefits here, you need to put most of your everyday and luxury expenses on this card.
2. Use TRAVEL EDGE Platform for travel bookings:
For travel spend up to Rs. 2 Lakh in a month on Axis EDGE rewards portal you earn 60 points per Rs. 200, and for spends above Rs. 2 Lakh you earn 35 points. Thus, you must plan your travel bookings accordingly, so as to derive the maximum benefit.
If your travel expenses are within Rs. 2 Lakh, then maximizing this feature is easy. However, if it is beyond this value, you can try booking up to Rs. 2 Lakh in a month, and keep the rest for another month. This could significantly work if you are planning your travel in advance, and have multiple months before your vacation arrives.
3. Utilize rewards against Air Miles or Hotel Loyalty Points
The card gives the maximum value back on redeeming the reward points against Travel. You can earn a high redemption value by transferring the points at a 5:2 ratio, for the flight/hotel loyalty program. In comparison to this, if you redeem the points against the product catalog, you generally get a value back of Rs. 0.20 for 1 Axis EDGE point.
For instance, if you have accumulated 96,750 reward points in a month, you accumulate a total of 11,61,000 points in a year , via the following scenarios:
Now, amongst the total accumulated points, you can utilize 5 Lakh points here, as per the maximum capping on converting rewards into partner loyalty points. For 5 Lakh rewards here you get around 2 Lakh points.
Transferring just 5 Lakh points to airmiles will fetch you 2 Lakh miles, that hold a better value back than collectively 11,61,000 points converted across product catalog at a value of 1 point= 0.20. These loyalty points can be directly used for flight ticket bookings.
You are a high spender and would be able to earn substantial reward points per month
You would be able to reach the annual spending threshold of Rs. 25 Lakh to get the annual fee waiver
You are a frequent traveller looking for free lounge visits and other travel benefits
You don’t mind majorly sticking to Group B travel partners for rewards redemption
Age: 18 to 70 years
Occupation: Salaried or Self-employed

While Axis Magnus still offers a generous reward rate, unlimited lounge access, dining benefits, and other premium privileges, it has lost its sheen as an ‘excellent’ premium card, majorly due to two major devaluations in a year. However, the card still offers a generous reward rate of 12 EDGE reward points per Rs. 200 spent for monthly spends of Rs. 1.5 Lakh and 35 EDGE reward points for monthly spends above Rs. 1.5 Lakh. The card offers the flexibility of redeeming accumulated reward points, EDGE reward points, to multiple airlines and hotel loyalty programs.
