Standard Chartered Reward Credit Card allows its users to save and earn up to 8X reward points on their spends. This reward rate includes 4 reward points earned on all the retail spends and additional 4 points which you can earn only after reaching a certain monthly spending threshold. These points can later be redeemed against a rewards catalogue as well as in the form of statement credit. To maximize the value-back, cardholders should opt for the former option; however, even then, the redemption ratio reaches 4:1, which is relatively low for a rewards credit card, as this ratio makes the 8X reward rate translate to merely up to 1.33% value-back. Another major benefit of this Standard Chartered credit card is the complimentary access to domestic airport lounges, which may prove advantageous for domestic air travellers. Moreover, the annual fee can either be waived by reaching a low annual spending limit of just Rs. 1.5 lakh or is compensated through bonus reward points.
This card appears to fall behind when it comes to offering any substantial value-back across lifestyle-related categories. For instance, some similar cards like Axis Rewards and IDFC FIRST Wealth credit cards come with slightly better rewards rates of 3.2% and 2%, respectively. However, their rewards programs and lounge access features are also accompanied by other benefits like milestone bonuses, insurance coverage, and discount offers on common spending categories, including dining, food delivery, movies, etc., which add to the overall savings that the card users can get.
