How to Apply Online for Shriram Travel Insurance?
- Visit the official website of Shriram General Insurance and click on ‘travel’ tab
- On the main page, click on ‘Click Here To Buy’ and enter your personal details, such as number of days and country you are travelling to, date of birth, email address and mobile number
- After entering all the required information, click on “Calculate premium”
- If you are satisfied with the premium payable, go ahead and make a payment with different payment gateway options and the policy will be issued
Claim Process for Shriram Travel Insurance
- Contact the Customer Support team and get the claim registered. You can also send the filled in claim intimation sheet to Help Desk by email
- Get claim reference number
- After the registration, the company will assess the loss and send an SMS of confirmation
- Assessment and survey will be held by the surveyor
- Provide the documents sought by the surveyor
- If approved, you will be paid for the loss or the medical expenses
Documents Required for Claim Process
Depending on the nature of the claim, the insured needs to submit the requisite documents to the insurance company for timely claim process:
In case of medical expenses
- Duly filled in and signed claim form
- Copy of police report, if the accident is reported
- Bills, receipts and cash memo
In case of total loss of checked-in baggage
- Duly filled in and signed claim form
- Original copy of the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) mentioning the items misplaced and their declaration value
- Baggage damage letter or report from the airline or any other relevant document verifying the loss
- Copy of passport/visa along with entry-exit stamp
- Details of the benefit or compensation received from the airline
In case of loss of passport
- Duly filled in and signed claim form
- Photocopy or original copy of FIR report
- Airline tickets
- For checked-in baggage delay, a letter from the carrier stating the reason and duration of the delay
- For loss of the passport, bills or receipts incurred in obtaining a new or duplicate passport
- Copies of both old and new passports
Time Taken To Settle Claims
After receiving all the required documents and upon satisfaction, the insurance company will settle the claim within 30 days, as per the regulation of the IRDAI. In case there is any delay in payment, insurance company is liable to pay interest.
Cases Where you Can’t Make Claims for Shriram Travel Insurance (Exclusions)
Shriram General is not liable to pay if the claim arises because of the following circumstances:
- Caused by (indirectly or directly) anxiety, depression or stress
- Accidents, injuries or illnesses that are directly or indirectly caused by war, war-like operations
- Consequential loss
- Participation in hazardous sports activity
- Pre-existing diseases
- If the policyholder is engaged in or associated with any hazardous sports such as mountaineering
Renewal Process
Shriram General Travel Insurance Plans can be renewed every year by mutual consent. In such a case, the renewal premium should be paid to the company on or before the date of expiry of the policy.
Important Aspects
- Maximum two dependent parents can be covered under Shriram Travel Insurance plans and for each additional child, 25% additional premium will added in the premium
- Total family size at any time should not exceed 6 members
- Extension of the travel insurance policy is only allowed once in the policy term
- No reduction in travel days and change of plan is allowed after the policy is issued

Q1. What is sum insured?
It is the maximum amount of coverage that the policyholder is entitled to get for any types of claims filed.
Q2. Do I need to pay extra premium if I want to add my mother-in-law?
Yes, to add additional adult in the policy, 50% additional premium will be added in the total premium amount.
Q3. Can I extend my Travel Insurance policy?
Yes, it is possible for an insured to extend his or her policy for another 180 days provided the total extension including the original period should not exceed 360 days. To extend their policy, the policyholder needs to submit declaration of good health and extension premium has to be paid before the actual extension starts.
Q4. Can I cancel my overseas travel insurance policy?
In case your trip gets cancelled, you can cancel your travel insurance policy after the expiry of 15 days from the effective date. The insured needs to submit the copy of a passport stating the journey has not commenced.
Q5. Will I get a refund if I return early?
In case the insured returns prior to the expiry of the policy period, the insured will get partial refund of the period s/he was not travelling.
