Freecharge is one of India’s leading payments app. Consumers can use it for making postpaid, prepaid, metro recharge, DTH and other utility payments across the country. The Freecharge wallet was launched in September 2015 and can be used to make online as well as offline payments including McDonalds, HomeStop, Shoppers Stop, Cinepolis, Crosswords, Hypercity etc. The list is still growing by leaps and bounds. Making a Freecharge account is the best solution for making instant and quick payments. It safely stores your money in the mobile wallet and you can use it anytime anywhere for making transactions in the fastest way possible. As demonetisation has given a major push to the cashless economy of India, Freecharge also aims to get more merchants from across the country to enhance its digital payments ecosystem.
Freecharge aims to make payments effortless, quick and hassle free. You just need to have a Freecharge account in order to pay or transact money. Just log into your Freecharge account and select the payment option to make the transaction. You can either use your Freecharge wallet balance or just pay through your plastic cards or netbanking.
There are various ways to pay or send money:
1. Chat and Pay Feature
The chat and pay feature of Freecharge app helps two users transfer or receive money instantly in their FC wallet. The chat option is available on the top of the Freecharge app, it is intended to make money transferring an easy and quick task.
2. #Onthego PIN Feature
The #OnTheGo PIN assists you to pay on the go. For this you neither need a mobile network nor internet connection, a four-digit number which will flash on your Freecharge app’s “pay to merchant” section will be used to complete the transaction. It can be easily used to make payments in offline stores. You just have to enter your registered number on the merchant’s POS machine. After this, you’ll receive a four digit PIN and by entering that PIN in your “Pay to Merchant” section, you can make the transaction within seconds. The validity of the #onthego PIN is 3 minutes.
3. Phone Number and OTP Feature
This feature helps you to make payments on all the offline stores by just giving your registered mobile number, after which you will receive “confirm your payment OTP” on your phone through SMS. You just need to enter that on the POS terminal and by doing this you can complete your transaction.
4. Pay through Whatsapp Feature
In order to make digital transaction convenient and simpler, Freecharge has taken their ‘chat and pay’ option to the next level by enabling Freecharge payments through WhatsApp. This feature simply allows its users to send or receive money though their WhatsApp. You just need to open your WhatsApp and type FC and the amount that you wish to send. You can choose from the request, send or recharge money options available on the payment page.
5. QR Code Scan Feature
This feature helps you to pay money instantly at cabs, petrol pumps, coffee outlets, offline stores, grocery stores and many more places. You don’t need any phone number, just scan the QR code available at such outlets and enter the amount to wish to pay and click send to complete the transaction. You can also generate your own QR code in your Freecharge app and receive payments instantly without using any phone number or email ID.

All the transactions and paymenyts can be made through your smartphone, tablet or smartwatch. You can use it for making quick purchases and pay or receive payments at online and offline stores. You don’t even have to enter your bank or card info. On the top of that, you receive offers, cashback and discount vouchers every now and then for making payments using your Freecharge account. There are numerous partner outlets where you can pay through Freecharge balance and receive big discounts vouchers, offers and cashback.

Freecharge ensures its customers have a safe and secure experience. Freecharge keeps your bank and card’s info safe within itself. All the transactions are done through a security protocol called SSL which ensures that your card and bank’s details are kept confidential. For every saved card, Freecharge requires you to enter the CVV or CV2 code (a 3-digit number mentioned at the back of your plastic card) before adding or sending money. There are various security features available on the app which can be used for ensuring the Freecharge account’s safety.
The following safety measures can be taken up for improving the security of the Freecharge account:
In order to add money to your Freecharge Wallet, you can use your plastic cards or net banking option. Just log into your account and click “add money”, after which you will see a payment page where you can select the mode of transfer options like debit card, credit card or net banking. Enter your card or net banking details and the amount you wish to add into your Freecharge account. The added money will reflect into your amount just after few seconds. If you wish to check your wallet’s balance then you can check it on the account section which is available on the payment page, you can also check your previous transactions both debit and credit done in your account.
The maximum amount that can be added to the Freecharge account is limited to Rs.20,000 a month. There is no transaction limit set for making transaction on bill payments, shopping sites and recharges. You can also withdraw the money into your bank account instantly. This feature is available on account section which needs you to verify your phone number before making any withdrawals. Cashbacks and discounts on your Freecharge balance cannot be refunded to a bank account. The cashback money has certain validity and expires after a given time period, Freecharge sends you a reminder of using your wallet cashback before the expiry date. You can transfer a maximum amount of Rs.5000 to your bank account in a day, it is limited to Rs25,000/ month.
If you wish you transfer you Freecharge wallet’s amount into your Bank account instantly then you have to login to your Freecharge wallet and click “withdraw money”. Enter your bank account details and the amount to wish to withdraw. The amount will reflect into your bank account. The amount is kept on hold for 2 days for safety reasons.
Wallets insurance ensures that user’s money is kept safe. In any cases of lost, theft or fraudulent transactions, Freecharge refunds back the money in the form of wallet balance only. The maximum amount that is covered under this policy is Rs.20,000 and it can be availed by those users who have been using the Freecharge wallet from at least 1 month. If the user’s mobile gets stolen then the user has to inform Freecharge regarding the same via e-mail within 12 hours of lost. An FIR of mobile theft should be submitted to Freecharge within 24 hours. The insurance is covered by Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd.
