What is Flexi Cap Fund

Flexi cap funds are open ended equity mutual fund schemes, which are free to invest across large cap, mid cap and small cap stocks without any SEBI-imposed minimum and/or maximum exposure to any particular market capitalisation slabs, segments, sectors or themes. However, being classified as equity funds, SEBI regulations require flexi cap funds to invest at least 65% of the fund’s portfolio in equities and equity related instruments.

These funds also have the freedom to invest up to 35% of their portfolios in debt securities like government bonds, commercial papers, corporate bonds, Treasury bills, units issued by REITs & InvITs and other non-equity instruments.

  • Also offers diversification across sectors and investment themes
  • The freedom to adjust portfolio allocation on the basis of changing market conditions allows flexi cap funds to navigate market volatility better than midcap funds, small cap funds or 'large & mid cap' funds
  • Unrestricted access across market capitalisation and sectors/themes reduces the risk of market volatility
  • Reduces the chances of missing out on market rallies in any specific market cap or sector/segment
