Flexi cap funds are open ended equity mutual fund schemes, which are free to invest across large cap, mid cap and small cap stocks without any SEBI-imposed minimum and/or maximum exposure to any particular market capitalisation slabs, segments, sectors or themes. However, being classified as equity funds, SEBI regulations require flexi cap funds to invest at least 65% of the fund’s portfolio in equities and equity related instruments.
These funds also have the freedom to invest up to 35% of their portfolios in debt securities like government bonds, commercial papers, corporate bonds, Treasury bills, units issued by REITs & InvITs and other non-equity instruments.
