Employee provident fund is a big initiative by the Indian government. It enforces a discipline of investment. As the EPF is a government-backed scheme, it features the lowest possible risk and is favoured by salaried employees of private as well as public sectors. EPF holds around 12% of employee’s salary including DA and other regular allowances.
In the past, tracking one’s PF account balance used to be difficult with employees having to constantly follow up with their respective HR team SPOCs. However, Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has now caught on with technology to ensure subscribers are able to keep a track of their deposited money anytime anywhere. You can now access your PF account, check balance, withdrawals, contributions and other necessary details just by tapping on your phone. If you are planning to switch your job and want to see your PF balance or you have any doubts about your employer then you can straightaway access your PF account through your mobile phones.
Here are 3 ways to check your PF account through mobile.
- EPF Missed call service
This service started on 13th November 2015. It is the easiest way to check your provident fund account balance. You just need to give a missed call on the designated number – 01122901406 – from your registered mobile number. You will receive an SMS with the information about your latest PF account balance soon after.
- Mobile application
The app was launched on 15th September, last year by EPFO.It not only tells you about your PF account balance but also activates your UAN number. This app is also beneficial for pensioners and employers as employers can check their contribution status and pensioners can check their pension status. PF balance can be checked only when you have activated your UAN number which can be done from the app itself.
App can be downloaded from the official website of EPFO.
- UAN activation through SMS
Universal account number is a 12-digit number and it is provided by every employer to their employees. Earlier customers had to visit uanmembers.epfoservices.in website if they wanted to activate their UAN number, but today thanks to digitisation, customers can activate their UAN number by sending an SMS alone. This is very helpful for those people who do not have easy access to computers or smartphones.
For activating your UAN, type “EPFOHO UAN <LAN>” and send it to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number. Here “LAN” stands for language in which you want to receive an SMS. Available languages are English, Punjabi, Kannada, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam.
The bottom line…
You must always keep a tab on your PF account as it’s a saving which you can use in your golden days. Sometimes errors can occur while depositing EPF amount or employers might forget to remit their share and it may be challenging to get your PF money back if the company shuts down unexpectedly. Therefore, it is very necessary for all the employees to check their EPF on regular basis.
