Small cap companies are defined as those whose market capitalisation is below top 250 listed companies by market capitalisation. The scheme will be open ended, allowing investors to enter and exit on all business days.
The scheme will be benchmarked to the Nifty Small Cap 100 Total Returns Index (TRI). As of July 31st, the Nifty Small Cap 100 had one year returns of -4.29% and five year returns of 22.99%. However the index also had an extremely high PE (Price to Earnings Ratio) of 83.81. The index was led by companies like Graphite India, HEG, Escorts, Cyient and Infibeam.
The scheme will be managed by Rupesh Patel who also manages Tata Large Cap Fund, Tata Large and Midcap Fund, Tata Infrastructure Fund, Tata Midcap Growth Fund, Tata Infrastructure Tax Saving Fund, Tata Offshore India Infrastructure Scheme, Tata Offshore Opportunities Scheme.
