The scheme would invest in equities and equity related instruments of companies spanning the entire market capitalization spectrum. The fund will invest 50-90 per cent in large-cap stocks, 10-40 per cent in mid-cap stocks and upto 10 per cent in small-cap stocks.
Returns are taxed at 15%, if you redeem before one year. After 1 year, you are required to pay LTCG tax of 10% on returns of Rs 1 lakh+ in a financial year.

What is SBI Magnum Multi Cap Fund?
SBI Magnum Multi Cap Fund is an open-ended equity mutual fund scheme by SBI Mutual Fund Asset Management Company (AMC) that invests across the market capitalization spectrum. It is classified as an equity scheme (according to the rules of SEBI) because it invests 65% of its assets in equities and equity related instruments. Its riskometer is moderately high. Its CRISIL Rank is 3 in the Multi Cap Category and has remained unchanged for the last quarter.
This multi cap fund as it invests in company stocks of large cap, mid cap and small cap funds. Mr. Anup Upadhyay is the Fund Manager of SBI Magnum Multi Cap Fund for the past two years and comes with 11 years of experience. Its current Net Asset Value (NAV) is Rs. 50.394 (growth plan, as on October 29) and total AuM (Asset under Management) is Rs. 8,078.69 Crore.
The fund aims to provide investors with an opportunity for long-term growth in capital through an active management of a diverse portfolio while ensuring sufficient liquidity. It is involved majorly in sectors of Financial Services, Energy, Consumer Goods, IT, Automobile and Construction. Its major holdings include HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, Gujarat State Petronet Ltd., Maruti Suzuki and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Taxation – How Will They be Taxed?
As per taxation laws, long term capital gains, more than Rs 1 lakh, made on sale of units after 1 year from the date of allotment are taxed at the rate of 10% (without indexation). On the other hand, the short-term capital gains within 1 year from the date of allotment are taxed at the rate of 15%.
