How to check your PF Balance Instantly

check pf balance instantly
If you are a salaried professional, you would be well aware of Employee Provident Fund (EPF) – a small percentage of your salary deducted from your remuneration plus your employer’s contribution of a similar amount is deposited in your Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account every month. Over time, EPF balance for a professional grows into a corpus that can be extremely handy for retirement savings or during emergencies. Hence, it is important that we are aware and keep track of the balance we have in our EPF account.

While checking your EPF balance was cumbersome in the past, technology initiatives by the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) have made the entire process easy and convenient. Here is how you can find out your EPF balance instantly though mobile:

  1. EPF Missed call service

It is the most easiest and preferred way to check your PF balance. You just have to give a missed call on this designated number – 01122901406 – from your registered mobile number. After that, you will instantly receive an SMS with the detailed information of your latest PF account balance.

  1. Mobile application

The EPFO app has made it very easy for customers to check their PF account balance. The app not only updates you about your PF account balance but also activates your Universal Account Number (UAN). It is also helpful for employers and pensioners as the former can check the contribution status and latter can view their pension status. However, you can only check your PF balance when you have activated your UAN which can be done from the app itself.

App can be easily downloaded from the EPFO’s official website: http://www.epfindia.com/site_en/

  1. UAN activation through SMS

The Universal account number is a 12-digit number provided by each and every employer to their employees. Earlier, customers had to visit the website uanmembers.epfoservices.in if they needed to activate the UAN. Thanks to digitisation, nowadays customers just have to send an SMS to activate their UAN. It has proven to be extremely useful for people who don’t have easy access smartphones or computers.

For activating your UAN, type “EPFOHO UAN <LAN>” and send it to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number. Here “LAN” stands for language in which you want to receive an SMS. Available languages are English, Punjabi, Hindi, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil and Bengali.

  1. Checking PF balance online through UAN

The UAN-based portal was launched by EPFO in 2014 to facilitate services through a single platform. When you log in to the portal, you will find your PF account passbook which will have all the details of your PF contribution and added balance. Through this portal, you can download your UAN card and update your KYC details. However, this interface requires your UAN, which is needed to activate your UAN account after which you can simply log into the website and download your PF passbook.

  1. Checking PF balance online without UAN

This facility is apt for those who still haven’t received their UAN. This online portal needs your PF account number which is usually mentioned on your pay slips. Choose your state where you live in and then choose the regional PF office, this is also mentioned on your pay slip. The first two alphabets are the code of your region and next three alphabets are code for your regional PF office. Once you submit all the above details, you will get an SMS on your registered mobile number about your current PF balance.
