The government had made it mandatory for all PAN holders to get their PAN linked with Aadhaar in the previous budget. It does not matter whether a person pays tax or not, he has to get both of his details linked. However, the Income Tax Department has allowed taxpayers to file their returns even if they have not linked their PAN with Aadhaar. But, such taxpayers will have to get it done before 31st August, 2017 in order to get their filed IT returns processed.
It is very easy to link PAN card with Aadhaar. One of the simplest ways to do this is by visiting the https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/LinkAadhaarHome.html website and linking the two details. People can directly visit the page and enter their PAN, Aadhaar number, name as on their Aadhaar card and a captcha image/security code. Once entered, they have to click on the “Link Aadhaar” button. Visually challenged people can request for an OTP instead of the image captcha on the screen.
It should be ensured beforehand that the name on Aadhaar and PAN card are same. In case the name on both cards is not the same and other details match completely, then an OTP would be sent to the registered mobile number with Aadhaar which has to be entered to validate the mismatch.
Once the form is submitted, the applicant’s PAN is linked with Aadhaar immediately and a message stating that the applicant’s PAN and Aadhaar are linked successfully appears on the screen.
